For the hot and rainy climate in July, Nara National Museum is a cool place to visit, as well as a good site to learn the history and Buddhist culture in Nara. To escape from summer heat, Mitarai Valley and Mount Yoshino in the south of Nara are recommended, if you don’t mind going a little farther. On a clear night, visitors could also discover imposing scenes of shining fireflies around Todai-ji Temple. Going to Nara Park in the morning, you may surprisingly witness that deer herd run to the trumpeter when they hear the music from French horn.
Tips
In Nara Park, the deer herd won’t be gathered every day. Before the event, there would be a notice that declares the specific dates and the time of this activity. In general, there are 3-4 days when deer are gathered in the morning in July, August and September. If you would like to see the magnificent scene, please check the date in advance. If you have no interest in it, deer feeding is also fascinating.
