Nara Weather in January

It is definitely necessary to wear warm winter clothes in Nara in January. Thermal shirt, sweater, down coat, hat, padded trousers, boots, gloves, scarf, etc. are all proper. As it is well-heated indoors, visitors could wear outerwear which can be taken off conveniently.Recommendation Rate: 

Nara abounds in old temples, and Todai-ji Temple, Toshodaiji Temple, Horyu-ji Temple, etc. are all visit-worthy for their historical atmosphere and relics. Among them, Todai-ji Temple is the world’s largest wooden architecture and preserves the world’s biggest bronze statue of Buddha. Kasuga Taisha Shrine is a great place to experience the festival atmosphere of New Year. Wakakusa Yamayaki may be the grandest festival in late January, as the grass burning ceremony is accompanied with firework show on Mount Wakakusa. Wakakusa Yamayaki is held on the fourth Saturday in January. Nara Park and Kasugano at the foot of Mt. Wakakusa are perfect to see fire. Also, Nara Palace Site Historical Park allows you to have a panoramic view of both the fire and fireworks. In case of rainy day or strong winds, the burning ceremony may be postponed. In view of Nara weather, onsen bathing is also a nice thing to do in January.
