Taipei Weather in January

Based on the Taipei January weather, it is not a good month to travel to Taipei in January. In general, the temperature varies between 13 - 18℃ (59 - 64.4°F) in the daytime and drops as low as to 9 ℃ (48.2 °F) at night, making it the coldest month of the year. The precipitation averagely reaches 102 mm (4 inches) during the month. Another obvious feature of January weather in Taipei is foggy and the sky is mostly cloudy.

The Chinese New Year sometimes falls at the end of January and many traditional activities would be held at this time, offering tourists good opportunities to enjoy fun with the locals.
  For the relatively cold winter weather in Taipei in January, layering a downcoat on a thin sweater, and thick long pants would be enough to keep your body warm even at night. For those who are used to cold weather, a long-sleeved shirt plus a jacket or hoodie is sufficient and more comfortable.
 
 In spite of the cold January Taipei weather, tourists can still visit some major attractions in Taipei like in any other months. The supertall skyscraper - Taipei 101 is an unmissable attraction in January because the Chinese New Year’s Eve sometimes falls in this month when you would witness gorgeous fireworks and brilliant night view of the whole city. Taipei night markets should also be added into your travel list, especially the Shilin Night Market. It is the most famous one in Taiwan, offering various local snacks to warm you up in the chilly night.

In addition, in terms of the low Taipei temperature in January, it is particularly suitable for visiting Beitou Hot Spring village in Taipei, where tourists could enjoy authentic thermal springs and admire lots of Japanese-era buildings including inns, tea houses, and resorts. Besides, you can visit other hot springs with a short distance from the city, such as Wuling and Mt. Yangming.
 1. Although the rainfall is not big in January, all kinds of rain gears including umbrella and waterproof coat are still necessary to prevent sudden showers.

2. It can be incredibly crowded and may take several hours battling the crowds to get to the destinations and back on the first day of Lunar New Year. So avoid it!
