Due to the hot, wet and stormy August weather in Taipei, you’d better dress lightly and comfortably. When traveling outside, it’s highly recommended to wear thin, breathable and quickly-dry clothes that cover lots of your skin to protect yourself from direct sunlight. Shorts and flip-flops are fine for men, and tank tops plus short shirts are super common among local women, even for visiting some temples of Taipei. Also, don’t forget sunglasses, sunhat, and sunscreen cream. It’s also wise to pack the rain gears when traveling to Taipei in August in case of rainy days.

Where to Go in Taipei in August

Some major outdoor attractions you could visit in Taipei in August include Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Elephant Hill Park and Longshan Temple. You’d better visit these destinations early in the morning. During the sweltering midday, spend the time in your hotel or an air-conditioned café. In the afternoon, you could go to explore some water parks to beat the severe heat. Around dusk, you could head out to Taipei’s night markets like Shilin Night Market to have shaved ices and other delicious snacks.

Double Seventh Festival, aka Chinese Valentine's Day, usually falls in August. There will be huge fireworks display at the Dadaocheng Pier this day, where you could enjoy kinds of food and interesting games.
