With a subtropical monsoon climate and the location on Pacific Ocean, Taipei features warm weather throughout the year, but with high humidity. The annual average temperature hovers around 23 ℃ (73.4 ℉). Generally, Taipei weather can be divided into hot season from April to November and cool season between December and March. July and August are the hottest and wettest months in Taipei with an average temperature of 30 ℃ (86 ℉) and there are high chances of Typhoon as well. While January is the coldest period with the lowest Taipei temperature around 16 ℃ (60.8 ℉).
 

Best Time to Visit Taipei

The best time to travel to Taipei is from March to May when you could enjoy pleasant Taipei climate, very less rainfall and colorful blooms. In addition, the period between October and November is the shoulder time with balmy weather, perfect for walking around the city.

Taipei Climate - Seasons & Travel Advice

Taipei actually has four seasons like any temperate climate. The weather in Taipei Taiwan comes to its climax in July with the temperature of 35 ℃ (95 ℉), but it still feels cool in evenings thanks to the ocean breezes. In the coldest months from December to February, Taipei average temperature remains around 16 ℃ (60.8 ℉).
 

Spring (March - May)

Taipei temp finally starts rebounding in late March, and from April to May, Taipei city weather gradually transforms from pleasantly warm to slight hot. The average temperature usually ranges between 20-25 ℃ (68-77 ℉) when the flowers in the local parks are in full bloom. At the end of May, the rainy season begins appearing. The Tomb Sweeping Day on April 5th, is celebrated as a public holiday in Taipei and many locals would go south to spend the festival with their families. Therefore, you will find deserted and quiet streets during this time.

What to wear: thin jacket or light sweater, hoodie, jeans
 

Summer (June - August)

Summer season is harsh, extremely hot and humid in Taipei when the temperature can occasionally soar over 35 ℃ (95 ℉). This makes sightseeing a bit of a sticky and sweaty experience. Fortunately, there are many beaches near Taipei. The typhoon season also falls during the period, overflowing with heavy rains and thunderstorms. So it’s always wise to check the Taipei forecast the day before departure. Besides, the beginning of the summer season usually starts with Dragon Boat Festival, on which the dragon boat races would be held and it’s a rather fun time for tourists.

What to wear: waterproof jacket, T-shirt, raincoat, umbrella
 

Autumn (September - November)

With the cool weather and the least amount of rain, autumn is an ideal time for both locals and travelers to stroll around Taipei when the typhoon season is coming to an end. The average Taipei weather monthly ranges from 22 to 28 ℃ (71.6 - 82.4 ℉), which is firmly perfect for outdoor activities. The Mid-Autumn Festival and Double Ten Day are two quite famous events during autumn. You would enjoy the full moon beauty on Mid-Autumn Festival and witness military parades and flag-raising ceremonies.

Winter (December - February)

The winter temperature in Taipei Taiwan is not very low, fluctuating between 7 ℃ and 19 ℃ (44.6 - 66.2 ℉). The coldest month, January remains the average temperature of 15 ℃ (59 ℉), which is somewhat chilly. On average, there are about 4 – 6 days with rainfall or snowfall per month during winter. Planning to visit Taipei in this period, you’re just in time for a lot of festivals, like Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, Chinese New Year, and Lantern Festival. You could enjoy the brilliant fireworks and join some special activities, as well as celebrate the traditional Chinese festival together with local people.
