Experiencing the Loy Krathong Festival

Loy Krathong Festival is a traditional festival celebrated all over Thailand. The Krathong is a floating vessel made by banana leaves with candles and flowers on. The coming Loy Krathong Festival will be on November 15th, 2024. At that night, people put the Krathongs into water to sacrifice to the river god and pray for the good weather and luck in the coming year. You can buy a Krathong and join in the ceremony with the local people. Please don’t pick up others’ Krathongs from the water, which is very impolite.
 
On the Loy Krathong Festival, there will be other various activities in Bangkok, such as the boating race on the Chao Phraya River and fireworks shows in many parts of the city.
 
In Northern Thailand cities the activities will be more colorful, especially in Chiang Mai. There will be famous sky lantern setting up ceremony. In the meantime, the Tha Phe Gate will be decorated with colorful lights and huge moon-shaped lanterns. Just after the rainy season, the natural scenery in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is very lively, especially in the mountainous areas.
