Don’t forget to wear strappy sandals with non-slip soles during the rainy days. Flip-flops are not suggested because of the slippery floor caused by rain.

Touring Recommendations in Thailand in August

Bangkok

Normally in rainy season, it is sunny in the day time. Heavy shower more often hits in dusk and evening. So you can travel around the palaces, temples and markets in the daylight, then treat yourself with Thai massage or other indoors activities at night.

In the morning, it is the best time to have a walk in the Grand Palace. Under the sunlight, the buildings like the famous Wat Phra Kaew there shines beautifully. It is also a wonderful timing for photos. Then, the Wat Pho temple has the grand sight of a reclining Buddha statue and a lot of pagodas. The Wat Arun is famous of the five pagodas decorated by the china pieces. Moreover, the Erawan Shrine at the Ratchaprasong crossing is a famous Buddha statue in the downtown area.

In the evening, you can go to the Asiatique the Riverfront night fair or Khao San Road to enjoy Thai massage, Muay Thai show and lady-boy show. It is also a nice plan to eat Thai foods and snacks in the markets. Thai rice noodle soup, baked fish cake wrapped by banana leaves, banana chocolate pancake and fresh juice are specialties there. At clear night, a cruise on the Chao Phraya River can take you to appreciate the landmarks, the Wat Arun, and the Grand Palace. On this tour, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery by the riverside with the breeze on the river.

Ayuthaya

If you are a fan of ancient architectures, Ayuthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand is a must-visit place for you. It has been collected into the UNESCO World Heritage List. Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Chaiwattahananram and dozens of temple ruins stand there, revealing the prosperity of ancient times. The visiting routes there are paved with bricks, so won’t be muddy even in rainy season.

Hua Hin

Due to the Southwest Monsoon, the weather in the East Coast of Thailand and along the Andaman coast is pretty bad. The waves are often too big to boat out of sea during showers. If you want to have an island vacation in August, it is better to choose West Coast or Gulf of Thailand, like Hua Hin; and pay attention to local weather forecast.

During sunny times, you can enjoy yourself by renting a horse to ride around the Hua Hin beach, or go to Hua Hin Railway Station which is an ancient station of Victorian and Thai style. It’s also recommended to experience the rides and facilities in Vana Nava Water Jungle. As a famous place for vacation, Hua Hin is also favored by Thai imperial family who have built lots of palaces there. If it showers, you can visit the indoors museums at the palaces. The Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park is “a palace in the mountains”, which is like a castle in the fairy tales. Besides, the Marukataiyawan Palace is a quiet and fresh palace near the sea.
