How to Take Ulaanbaatar Bus

Ulaanbaatar bus is the primary way of transportation in the city as public buses are the cheapest way to travel in Ulaanbaatar city. There are daily 1,200 buses of around 21 companies on 79 routes in the whole city. These buses are connecting a network of long-distance to cities and towns of Ulaanbaatar. There are two ways of payment while travelling by using public buses:
 You need to pay MNT500 (USD0.18) for the Ulaanbaatar bus in one way and MNT300 (USD0.1) for trolleybus for one way only. You have to pay MNT 500 (USD0.18) every time with exact fare because drivers don’t have a change, and they don’t give you tickets. Another disadvantage is that you cannot transfer to another bus, and if you are changing the bus, then you need to pay separately whenever you are boarding a bus.
 Cash payment is not accepted many times, but you can pay by using the U money bus card which costs MNT 3,600 (USD1.26). And you have to charge this card first with the minimum amount of MNT500 (USD0.18) and the maximum MNT 90,000 (USD32). You need to tap the card whenever you get into the bus and transferring to another bus. The transiting is free if you are changing the bus within 30 minutes.
 

All remote, as well as well-known destinations, can be reached by bus easily from Ulaanbaatar. The routes are constantly changing, but here is the list of popular routes in Ulaanbaatar. Check and confirm the route first while taking any bus.

• 1. To reach Bayanzürkh Bus Terminal or Eastern Bus Station, you can take trolleybus 4 from anyplace on Peace Ave, heading east.

• 2. To reach Chinggis Khaan Airport, you can take Bus 7 from Bayangol Hotel.

• 3. To reach Dragon Bus Terminal or Western Bus Station, you can take Bus 1 and 59 from Peace Ave, heading west.

• 4. To reach East Cross Road for locations like Intellectual Museum and Kempinski Hotel, you can take Bus 1, 3, and 37, and Trolleybus 2.

• 5. To reach Naadam Stadium, you can take Bus 34, 7, and 55 from Ard Kino as well as from Bayangol Hotel.

• 6. To reach Naran Tuul Market, you can take Bus 3 from anywhere on Peace Ave.

• 7. To reach Three / Four District, you can take Bus 2 or Trolleybus 5 from Peace Ave, Bus 51 from Dunjingarav past the Chinese Embassy and Tengis cinema, Bus 51 or 52 from Tengis cinema, and Bus 58 from Bayangol Hotel.

• 8. To reach Ulaanbaatar Train Station, you can take Bus 29 from Bagshiin Deed (near Ulaanbaatar Hotel), which goes via Seoul St and also can take Trolleybus from Peace Ave.

• 9. To reach Winter Palace and Zaisan Hill, you can take Bus 8 and 52 from Bayangol Hotel and also can take Bus 52 from Ard Kino.
