Mongolia Profile

Capital: The capital of Mongolia is Ulaanbaatar, a city built on the vast grassland. Its permanent residents is 1.5 million, accounting for about 46% of the country’s total population.

Language: The official language is Mongolian, and the popularity of English is not very high, especially when going outside of Ulaanbaatar. But Russian is more widely used here.

Population: As of June 2022, the population of Mongolia is 3.4 million, with the Kazakh ethnic group accounting for about 80% of the total. Mongolia has a vast territory but low population density, making it one of the world’s least populated countries.

Religion: Lamaism, aka Tibetan Buddhism is the state religion.

Geography: Located between China and Russia in the central Asia, Mongolia is an landlocked country encircled by the two. Most of the country is covered by grassland with few arable lands. There are many mountains in the north and west, and Gobi deserts in the south. About 30% of its population engage in nomadic or semi-nomadic activities.

Best time to visit: May to October are the best months to take Mongolia tours. July is the most suitable to the north not only because of the comfortable weather, but also the most solemn Naadam Festival. Note that it’s also the peak month, so do remember to book your transportation and hotels in advance. June and September are relatively pleasant time to visit, as the weather is not too cold with less tourist crowds.

Things to do: Here in Mongolia we can see barren Gobi deserts, lush forests, high mountains, beautiful lakes, and vast grasslands. Whether you are galloping on the horseback, crossing the Gobi on a camel, experiencing the traditional Mongolian yurt, or enjoying the wrestling matches, songs and dances, you may deeply immersed yourself in the local atmosphere.
