Shanghai Concert Hall
Shanghai Concert Hall, also called Cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall, is a grand building with a classical western architectural style. It was the first one in Shanghai being designed by a Chinese architect. It has ancient Romanesque pillars and marble stairs in the north hall, huge dome inside the theater as well as parapets with delicate carvings. During the early years of the theater, movies, acrobatics, circuses, dramas and Chinese local operas were mainly shown here. The theater was the first one in the city which screens foreign movies.
In 1950, it was renamed Beijing Cinema. In 1959, the present name of the concert hall was adopted. Since then, it has been one of the most popular centers for music shows in the city. The hall was rebuilt in 2002 and reopened in 2003. The new hall aims at showing the public quality classical music, including symphony, chamber music, solo, ensemble, jazz, vocal concert and traditional Chinese music. Shanghai Concert Hall Capacity can reach to 1,200 people.
With advanced acoustics equipment and elegant surroundings, Shanghai Concert Hall has been favored by many artists and bands in recent years. So far a great number of world famous musicians and orchestras have performed here, including the Chamber Music Ensemble of US Philadelphia Orchestra, Julia String Quartet, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Italy International Orchestra, Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, Tel Aviv violinist Pinchas Zukerman, Isaac Stern, Italian violinist Salvatore Accardo, Polish female pianist La Rocha as well as Chinese pianists Fou Ts'ong and Yin Chengzong. How to Get to Shanghai Concert Hall
By Metro:
Take metro line 8 and get off at Dashijie Station, Exit 4. Then walk to the west to find Shanghai Concert Hall.
By Bus:
Take bus no. 23, 108, 455, 775, 782, 793 or 789 to get to Middle Jinling Road Longmen Road. Then walk north and arrive at the destination.
