Established in 1984, Xiamen Airlines is the first airline in China to be run on a commercial basis. The company prides itself on pursuing innovation and high standards. Having a fleet of 87 Boeing aircraft including passenger airplanes B757-200, B737-800 and B737-700, its seating capacity is over 14,000. With an average aircraft age of less than 5 years, the airline owns one of the youngest aircraft fleets in the world. The headquarters are in Xiamen, and it has also established sizeable subsidiaries in Fuzhou and Hangzhou. Currently, it has air routes leaving from Wuyishan, Quanzhou, Tianjin, Changsha and Nanchang. Its main operations are domestic air routes, cargo transport and flights to neighboring countries in Asia. The latest report showed that the total passenger throughput was more than 15 million in 2011. It also has sidelines in aviation maintenance, hotels, tourism and international trade. The logo of Xiamen Airlines is an egret adorning the blue sky signifying that happiness and good luck will always accompany their passengers.

As standard the airline offers business class and economy class on all international and domestic air routes. Also, on some Boeing 757s, it provides first class passengers with seats which fully recline to a horizontal position – these are mainly available on air routes between Xiamen and Beijing, Xiamen and Guangzhou, and Fuzhou and Beijing.

Moreover, the company is proud of its hospitable service which aims to cater for the passengers’ every need. This includes services such as support for unaccompanied children, birthday parties for passengers, special care for older or disabled people and special holiday provision. Another feature of the airline is that they broadcast in Hokkien as well as in English and Mandarin, and offer congou - a grade of Chinese black tea produced in south Fujian on some flights.

The airline also operated a charter flight from Guangzhou to Taipei for the Spring Festival of 2005. It ranks second in China after China Southern Airlines to offer Cross-Straits air services between mainland and Taiwan. From December 15th 2008, the airline company began to offer regular direct flights from Xiamen, Fuzhou, and Hangzhou to Taiwan. While in April, 2009, it started a new route between Shenyang and Taipei. It was the only direct charter flight leaving from the northeast China provinces, as well as the one with the longest flight course.
