Clothes and Stuff to Be Packed for Cambodia January Trip

Clothes to Wear in Cambodia in January
Clothes: Since Cambodia has a tropical climate, wearing T-shits, sleeveless garments, shorts or skirts is suitable. In the daytime, to prevent sunburn and suntan, put on sun-protective clothing, such as wide-brim hats, sunglasses, sun-protective masks and sun-protective sleeves. Also, make sure the clothes are loose and breathable so that the body will not be in a sweat. In the early morning, the weather can be a little cold. Wearing a thin coat is a good way to keep warm if you plan to see the sunrise.

Shoes: Regular scandals or sneakers are helpful in Cambodia. It is also common to wear flip flops in urban areas. Nevertheless, high heels are not recommended since the ground of some attractions is not smooth enough.

Other Necessities: Sun cream, sun umbrellas and sunscreen lip balm are useful to avoid being sunburnt as well. Although it is in the dry season, it is also possible to rain. Pay attention to weather forecast and bring an umbrella if it is going to rain. People tends to sweat in hot weather, and excessive water loss can lead to heat stroke, so take a portable water cup or enough bottled water to drink. In hot days, eating too much cold food can cause stomach diseases; prepare some gastrointestinal medicine for unexpected needs.

The Worthiest Attractions to Visit in January

Tourism Rate:

1. Phnom Penh

As the country’s capital, Phnom Penh was also known as “Paris in the East” about half a century ago. Part of the city used to be ruined, but its main charm remains still. In the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh, built in 1866-1870, the prosperity of the kingdom is on full display. The National Museum is waiting for visitors to explore the culture, art and folk customs of Southeast Asia. Last but not least, to commemorate the end of the Khmer Rouge Period (1960.9-1981.12) and the lives lost in the struggle, a grand celebration with national characteristics is held in Phnom Penh's Independence Square on January 7th every year. The name of the day is Victory over Genocide Day. Travelers can go to the square to know more about the country’s history.

2. Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville, on Cambodia's southwestern coastline, is the largest seaport in the country. Built after 1950, it is newer and more modern than others. It is also known as “the most popular Cambodian beach resort on the Gulf of Thailand”. In January, it seems to have bluer sky, clearer sea and more beautiful beaches. The sunlight is bright but not scorching. Because of far less rainfall of this month, you will enjoy beautiful sea sunset more easily. So it is a great vacation choice in January.

3. Kep

Adjacent to the Vietnamese border and facing the Gulf of Thailand, Kep is a charming coastal city known for its natural beaches and serene Rabbit Island, as well as its famous crab market. As January is a busy season for travelling, many attractions could be crowded. If you want to save time and tend to go somewhere less crowded and quieter, you can go to some remote areas, such as Kep and the northeastern regions of Mondokiri and Ratanakiri. Kep is the most recommended. Because the distance from it to some major cities like Phnom Penh, West port and Kampot is very close and the transportation is convenient. With good transportation and natural sceneries, you will have a memorable experience in Kep. If you want to visit other distant attractions, arrange the transportation in advance so as to arrive and come back smoothly.
