Sizes of Star Hotels and Their Business Statistics

According to the latest statistical data from the China National Tourism Administration, by the end of 2013 there were 13,293 star-rated hotels in its databases. Among them, 11,687 had submitted operating figures for 2013, including 125 one-star hotels, 2,831 two-star hotels, 5,631 three-star hotels, 2,361 four-star hotels and 739 five-star hotels. Altogether, these 11,687 hotels had 1,539,100 rooms and 2,705,000 beds, with fixed assets of CNY501.77 billion. Their total revenue in 2013 was CNY 229.293 billion. The average occupancy rate was 56% for the whole year. In the fourth quarter, the average room rate was 335.36 CNY/room/night, the average occupancy was 56.63%, the revenue per available room was 189.93 CNY/night, and the revenue per room was CNY 36165.39.

Sizes of Travel Services and Their Business Statistics

By end of 2013, there were 26,054 travel agencies in mainland China, up 4.5% over 2012. Their total assets reached CNY 103.977 billion, an increase of 23.9% over last year. Their operating receipts were CNY 359.914 billion for the whole year, up 6.7% over 2012. During the year, travel agencies altogether attracted 14,475,200 inbound tourists and served 20,471,500, a decrease of 11.9% and 13.5% respectively compared with 2012. They organized 128.5572 million domestic visitors and received 145.1950 million who stayed overnight, a decrease of 10.5% and 10.9% compared with the previous year.
 

Education and Training on Travel and Tourism

By end of 2013, China had 959 tourism colleges and colleges with a tourism department, 138 less than 2013. Their enrolled students totaled 494,400, about 81,800 less than the previous year. The number of secondary vocational tourism colleges was 873, 266 less than 2012 and their enrolled students totaled 277,200, about 220,000 less than the previous year.

The in-service staff who received relevant training courses reached 4,273,000, a decrease of 4.4% compared with 2012.
