Sizes of Star Hotels and Their Business Statistics

By the end of 2012, there were 12,807 star-rated hotels in China and 11,367 of them submitted operating figures to China National Tourism Administration. The 11,367 hotels altogether had 1,497,200 rooms and 2,677,400 beds. Also among these 11,367 hotels, 640 were five-star, owning 252,000 rooms and 385,200 beds; 2,186 were four-star, possessing 437,400 rooms and 828,000 beds; 5,379 were three-star, having 603,200 rooms and 1,081,100 beds; 3,020 were two-star, occupying 197,500 rooms and 369,300 beds; 142 were one-star, having 7,100 rooms and 13,800 beds. Their average room rate was 328.95 CNY/ night and the yearly average occupancy was 59.46%.

In 2012, the fixed assets of these 11,367 star-rated hotels amounted to CNY 476.754 billion and their total revenue reached CNY 243.022 billion, among which 41.57% were from rooms and 44.78% from equipped restaurants. They turned CNY 15.295 billion to the state and their total profits were CNY 476.754 billion.

Sizes of Travel Services and Their Business Statistics

By the end of 2012, there were 24,944 travel agencies in mainland China, up 5.29% over the same period in 2011. Their total assets were CNY 83.955 billion, up 18.05% from 2011.

The total revenue by travel agencies in 2012 was CNY 337.475 billion, up 17.51% over the previous year. The total profits were CNY 14.828 billion, up 11.82% over 2011. The revenue from domestic tourism was CNY 187.833 billion, up 12.35% over 2011; among it, CNY 8.701 billion were profits, up 9.75%. The revenue from outbound tourism was CNY 93.606, up 40.11% over previous year; among it, CNY 4.467 billion were profits, increasing by 24.25% over 2011. The revenue from inbound tourism was CNY 28.236 billion, down 1.46% over the same period in 2011; among it, CNY 1.659 billion were profits, decreasing by 4.43% compared to 2011.
 

Education and Training on Travel and Tourism

By the end of 2012, there were a total of 2,236 tourism colleges in China, with a total enrollment of 1,073,400 students. Among them, 1,097 were tourism colleges and tourism departments in colleges and universities, 18 less than 2011 with a total enrollment of 576,200 students, decreasing by 23,600. The remaining 1,139 were secondary vocational tourism colleges, 46 more than in 2011, with a total enrollment of 497,200 students; 13,800 more than in 2011.

The number of in-service staff of tourism who received relevant training courses reached 4.4684 million people, 111,900 people more than in the preceding year, up 2.6%.
