China Outbound Tourism in 2011

In 2011, China outbound tourism market sustained a sustained, rapid and sound development, with an increasing number of tourist destinations. 

In the year, a total of 70.2500 million Chinese traveled overseas, up 22.4% compared to that in 2010. Among them, 6.1321 million went overseas under official assignment, increasing 4.3% from the previous year; while those went overseas for personal reasons reached 64.1179 million, up 24.5%. The ten front-ranking countries in the order of the number of Chinese visitors on the first leg of their tours were Hong Kong, Macao, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, the United States, Combodia, and Vietnam.

The number of Chinese people who traveled overseas as a group organized by travel services was 20.2192 million, up 21.5%. Of them, 12.6165 million went to foreign countries through the arrangements of travel services, up 44.0%; 7.6027 million traveled Hong Kong and Macau, down 3.5%. 

A new foreign country were added to Chinese people’s tourist destinations in 2011, which was the Islamic Republic of Iran

There were 28.3207 million China mainland residents visited Hong Kong, increased 22.6% than 2010. The number of China mainland residents traveled Macau was 19.7653 million, up 22.7%. 1.8450 million Chinese made a tour to Taiwan, increased 11.0%.
