China Outbound Tourism in 2010

In 2010, the Chinese outbound tourism market kept on developing at a steady rate. Meanwhile, the number of tourist destinations increases continuously.

In the year, a total of 57.3865 million Chinese traveled overseas, increasing by 20.4% compared to that in 2009. Among them, 51.5090 million went overseas for personal reasons, up 22.0%; while 5.8785 million went overseas on official business, increasing 7.9% from the previous year. The ten most popular countries and regions in the order of the number of Chinese visitors on the first leg of their tours were Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, the United States, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.

In 2010, 16.6388 million Chinese people traveled overseas as a group organized by travel services, rising 34.8% than the previous year. Of them, 8.761 million went to foreign countries through the arrangement of travel services, up 27.8%; 7.8778 million traveled Hong Kong and Macau, up 51.6%.

Seven new foreign countries were added to Chinese peoples tourist destinations in 2010, which was North Korea, Micronesia, Republic of Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Canada, the Republic of Serbia, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The number of China mainland residents visiting Hong Kong was 23.0990 million in 2010, an increase of 23.7% than 2009. Whilst, there were 16.1124 million China mainland residents traveling to Macau, up by 6.5%. 1.6619 million Chinese made a tour to Taiwan, up 68.6%.
