China Outbound Tourism in 2007

In 2007, China outbound tourism market sustained a rapid development, with an increasing number of tourist destinations. In the year, a total of 40.9540 million Chinese traveled overseas, up 18.6% compared to that in 2006. Among them, 6.0300 million went overseas for official business, up 5.3% from the previous year; while those went overseas for personal reasons reached 34.9240 million, up 21.3%. The ten front-ranking countries in the order of the number of Chinese visitors on the first leg of their tours were Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Russia, Thailand, the United States, Singapore, and Malaysia.

The number of Chinese people who traveled overseas as a group organized by travel services was 9.8742 million, 1.4440 million more than that in 2006, up 17.1%. Of them, 5.0227 million went to foreign countries using the arrangements of travel services, up 22.9%; 48515 million travelled to Hong Kong and Macau, up 11.7%. Additionally, 458,100 people toured frontier areas, arranged by travel services, up 39.4%.

There were 16.1369 million China mainland residents who visited Hong Kong on the first leg of their tours, increased 12.6% than 2006. The number of China mainland residents who travelled to Macau was 12.7702 million, increased 29.1%.

By the end of 2007, apart from Hong Kong and Macao, there had been 89 countries and regions that have become the tourist destinations of Chinese. According to the order of the official launching of the tourist markets, the 89 countries and regions are as follows: Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Malta, Indonesia, Turkey, Egypt, Nepal, Germany , India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Croatia, Hungary, Pakistan, Cuba, Greece, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia , Slovakia, Cyprus, Denmark, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Romania, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mauritius, Tunisia, Seychelles, Kenya, Zambia, Jordan, Northern Mariana Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Britain, Chile, Jamaica, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Laos, Mongolia, Tonga, Grenada, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Syria, Andorra, Morocco, Monaco, Bulgaria, Uganda, Oman , Namibia, Argentina, and Venezuela.
