China Jiuzhai Valley Open again from March 8, 2018

Following the devastating earthquake that occurred on August 8, 2017, Jiuzhai Valley (Jiuzhaigou) in China's southwestern Sichuan Province was finally ready to welcome its first batch of visitors just seven months later. What a piece of happy news! The gorgeous poet inspiring Jiuzhai Valley was once a dreamland for all visitors. When it was destroyed by the severe earthquake in 2017, many thought that they would lose the chance to see the beauty there in their lifetime. Whether the scenic area could reopen and when that might happen has long been a hot issue. Now, the reopening has brightened everyone's heart. Should you wish to experience a different Jiuzhai Valley that just survived an earthquake, then now is the right time.

However, only a part of the scenic area will be accessible, as much is still under environmental restoration and further assessment. The trial opening period is from March 8, 2018 to March 7, 2019.
 

Which Scenic Areas Will Be Opened & Opening Hours

The restored areas include the route from the entrance to the Long Lake, Zaru Temple in Zaru Valley, and the Mirror Lake in Rize Valley. Scenic spots including the Long Lake, Five Colors Lake, Mirror Lake, Nuorilang Waterfalls, Shuzheng Lakes, Waterfalls of Double Dragons Lake, and Zaru Temple can only be accessed on foot.

How to Tour the Jiuzhai Valley

A sightseeing bus takes visitors to each of the scenic spots with time allowed for them to dismount and view each in turn. After the visit, take the same bus takes to the exit.
 

Entry to the Scenic Area Is Restricted to Tour Groups

Currently, access is restricted to tour groups organized by legal travel agencies will be received. It's worth mentioning that the agency must buy travel insurance for their clients. Individual travelers cannot enter the scenic area. Initially, only 2,000 visitors will be allowed to enter daily. Later, this number may be increased.

According to a previous report, Jiuzhai Valley National Park will reopen in stages. In 2018, the areas less affected by the earthquake will open. In 2019, the second part will open. As for the severely damaged areas, they will be under careful examination and open once they are fully restored. The hope is that through the efforts of geologists, travelers will be able to see the whole of Jiuzhai Valley before too long.
