Travel Restrictions Due to the Sep. 3rd Military Parade

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory in World Anti-Fascist War as well as victory in the Sino-Japanese War, China will hold a military parade at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3, 2015. This is the 15th review of troops since 1949, followed by a series of patriotic activities later this year. In order to hold the parade successfully, many restrictions will be carried out in that area, which may influence one's travel plan.

Public Holiday from Sep. 3rd to 5th

China announced a three-day holiday from September 3 to 5 national wide. If you are scheduled to conduct official affairs during this period, please confirm the office hours in advance. In addition, as the cool autumn is coming, many people would like to travel during the holiday. Please avoid the travel rush if possible.
 

Attractions Closed from Aug. 22nd to Sep. 3rd

The parade site and surrounding areas will be closed, including Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City.

 Tiananmen Square will be closed from August 22 after the Flag Raising Ceremony to 12:00 of August 23, and from September 2 to September 3. Some sites on the square will be closed for even longer time, including Tiananmen Tower from August 1 to September 7 and Chairman Mao Memorial Hall from August 22 to September 3.

 Forbidden City will not open to the public from August 22 to September 3.  
 
 Surrounding commercial areas, including Qianmen Street, Dashilar Street, Wangfujing Street, Xidan Commercial Street, and Dongdan Commercial Street will be closed from 21:00 of August 22 to 12:00 of August 23, as well as September 2 and 3.

 Zhengyang Gate in Qianmen Street will be closed from August 22 to 12:00 of August 23 and September 2 and 3. 

 Working People’s Cultural Palace and Zhongshan Park will not open to the public from August 22 to 12:00 of August 23. They may not open to the public on September 2 and 3 too.

 Yonghe Lamasery will be closed whole day on September 3.

 Seven parks in Beijing will be closed temporarily. In detail, Taoranting ParkChaoyang Park, Lianhuachi Park, Longtan Park,  Honglingjin Park, and Yaowahu Park on August 23 till 12:00, and on September 3 till 14:00; Yuyuantan Park from 22:30 of August 22 to 12:00 of August 23 and 22:30 of September 2 to 14:00 of September 3.
 

Air Traffic Control on Sep. 3rd

The Capital Airport and Nanyuan Airport in Beijing will be closed from 09:30 to 12:30 on September 3. Many airlines have cancelled their flights to/from Beijing during the three hours.
 

Nearby Subway Stations Closed

Subway stations nearby the parade site will be closed. In details:

 17:00-23:00 on August 22: Dawanglu Station on subway line 1.
 21:00-24:00 on August 22: Guomao, Yonganli, Jianguomen, Dongdan, Wangfujing, Tiananmen East, Tiananmen West, Xidan, Fuxingmen on subway line 1; Qianmen, Hepingmen, Chongwenmen, Jianguomen, Fuxingmen on line 2; Xidan on line 4; Chongwenmen on line 5; and Guomao on line 10. 
 00:00-23:00 on August 23: the whole subway line 1; Sihui and Sihui East on Batong Line; Qianmen, Hepingmen, Chongwenmen, Jianguomen, and Fuxingmen on line 2; Xidan and Xuanwumen on line 4; Dongdan and Chongwenmen on line 5, Military Museum on line 9; and Guomao and Gongzhufen on line 10.

 20:00 on September 2 to 13:00 on September 3: Dawanglu Station on subway line 1.
 22:00 on September 2 to 13:00 on September 3: the whole subway line 1; Sihui and Sihui East on Batong Line.
 22:00 on September 2 to 00:00 on September 3: Qianmen, Hepingmen, Chongwenmen, Jianguomen, Xuanwumen, Changchunjie and Fuxingmen on line 2; Xidan, Xisi, Lingjing Hutong and Xuanwumen on line 4; Dongdan and Chongwenmen on line 5; and Guomao on line 10.

Vehicle Restrictions 

Vehicle restrictions will be carried out in Beijing city. For instance, the odd-and-even numbered license plate rule will be carried out from August 20 to September 3. This may help to solve traffic jam problems and improve air quality to some degree. During the traffic control period, about 3,000 additional public buses will be put into operation for passegners’ convenience. But they will not run into the parade area either.

As a whole, the parade held on September 3, 2015 may be a mixed blessing which will have some influences good or bad on your life if you are in Beijing at that time.
