2013 China Tourism Statistics

In the past 2013, China tourism industry achieved a sustainable, fast, and healthy development. The total revenue reached 475 billion USD, up about 13% over 2012. Domestic tourism revenue was 423.6 billion USD, increased by 15.7% compared with 2012; inbound tourism revenue topped 51.7 billion USD, up 3.3%.

According to the statistics from Tourism Administration, the country's inbound tourism shrank in 2013. The total inbound tourists were 129.0778 million, down 2.51% over 2012. The inbound revenue, however, reached 51.664 billion USD, up 3.27%. Among the 129.0778 million oversea tourist arrivals, 26.3903 million were foreign tourists, 76.8846 million were from Hong Kong, 20.7403 million were from Macau, and 5.1625 million were from Taiwan Province. Japan, Russian, USA, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Germany, UK, and France were among the top 20 tourism source countries. Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, Guilin, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Kunming, Hong Kong, Yichang, Suzhou, Datong, Zhuhai, Luoyang, Huangshan, Lhasa, Haikou, and Sanya were the top 20 destinations for oversea tourists in 2013.

The country had made great efforts to improve service and conditions at scenic spots and protect visitors in 2013. More English tour services and facilities, as well as security facilities have been established. Many newly used high-speed trains make traveling in the country faster and smoother. However, Inbound tourist satisfaction of 2013 still saw a drop by 11.41 compared with that of 20 12. Oversea visitors mainly concerned about the natural ecology, barrier-free facilities, water supply, and water quality in the country. There is still a long way to go.

The Outbound tourism, on the contrary, went through a rapid growth in 2013. In the first half year of 2013, over 45.1 million Chinese traveled abroad, increased by 17%. The number of the whole year was predicted to be 97.3 million with a growth of 18% over 2012. Hong Kong, Thailand, and South Korea were the three most popular destinations to travelers from Mainland China in 2013.
