Samye Monastery Pictures
Get to the north bank of Yalung Tsangpo River from ferry of Dranang and go through the wood, then Samye Monastery will be there before your eyes.
Usually considered to be the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet, Samye was initiated around 762 in Dranang County of Shannan, in a shape of a giant mandala consisting of a cluster of temples. The main temple houses many murals, Buddha statues and other religious relics, making it an important pilgrimage destination and a place of interest for tourists as well.
