Prayer wheels of Sakya Monastery forms a long corridor.

Situated in a hillside of Sakya County some 130 kilometers southwest of Shigatse, Sakya Monastery was began to be built in 1073 by a descendant of a noble family in the Tubo Period. This is the first monastery of Sakya Sect, being the center of sutras and books in Tibet. It houses more than 28,000 volumes of sermons, ranking the first among temples across the country.
