Shigatse is not only well-known as the second largest city in Tibet, but also as the abode of Panchen Lama. The New Palace of Panchen stands south of the Tashihunpo Monastery, built by the Tenth Panchen Lama in 1954 as a summer retreat. This magnificent palace houses many cultural relics and art treasures.
