Drepung Monastery Pictures

Every hall in the Drepung Monastery was well constructed and decorated. The major buildings include the Ganden Potrang where the Dalai Lamas' residence, the Conqen Hall preserves some Buddhist treasures and the four Zhacangs (Tantric clloeges).

Drepung Monastery is one the three greatest Buddhist temples in Lhasa together with Sera and Ganden Monasteries. This temple was originally built in 1416 when the Buddhist Gelug Sect was in its golden age. Therefore, as the typical building of Gelug Sect, it once was a most magnificent monastery where one can find the highest number of monks in Tibet. Now, it is a holy place for pilgrims and travelers.
