Pictures of Dujiangyan Irrigation System
Built in 256 BC, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System is the world's oldest and uniquely relies upon a levee rather than a dam to facilitate navigation. It was built across the Min River to solve the frequent flooding problems in the Chengdu Plain. The irrigation system is still in use today. It still plays an important role in preventing flood, irrigation and providing water sources for the local people in the province.
