It is now a transportation hub due to its location near the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal. Its history can be traced back to the 8th century and it is the origin of Wu culture. Many Temples have been built in the city. Because it is also a center of Huaiyang Cuisine, there are many snacks in Zhenjiang.

Located in northwest of Jiangsu, Xuzhou (called Pengcheng in ancient times) is the birthplace of Liu Bang, the first emperor of the Han Dynasty. During the Western Han Dynasty, it was the capital of the Chu Kingdom for 12 generations.
