It is about one hour's drive from downtown Shanghai to Zhujiajiao Water Town. The reason why going there in the morning is to avoid its peak time. Zhujiajiao Water Town, a famous ancient town in western suburb of Shanghai, is a pleasant destination to get away from the bustling metropolis. With over 1,700 years' history, this ancient town still retains ancient canals, distinctive bridges, gardens and local dwellings, exuding old time charms. Your guide will show you the best sights and fill you in on the details.

Upon arrival the water town, you will visit the longest bridge, Fangsheng Bridge, also called Setting-free Bridge, the Post Office of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 AD) and the Kezhi Garden. Besides, you will also enjoy a traditional boat trip on the river from Kezhi Garden to the North Street, a prosperous long street. After getting off the boat, you could meander along the ancient street paved with stone slabs to observe the local people’s life through the residential houses and featured stores.

Zhujiajiao is famous not only for its water town scenery, but also for its various local food and snacks. Today's lunch will be at your own expense and you may try some local food with your guide's advice. The prices are quite reasonable.

After the Zhujiajiao Water Town tour, we will drive back to the downtown area to visit the Yu Garden, which is a classical and elegant garden in Shanghai. Once you enter the garden, beautiful scenes will delight you wherever you go and all the scenes are grouped together by nature. Its lotus ponds mirror the halls, pavilions, towers, corridors and trees on the edge, offering wonderful views. We will ensure you enough time here to visit the garden.

Out of the garden, we will walk to the Yu Garden Old Street. The traditional architecture and layout make it an authentic place for people to learn about this historical city. Just like olden days, it is still a bustling business street, where there are plenty of stores and where you can find interesting gadgets. Besides, the food there also enjoys a great reputation, which is the reason you can often see many local people queueing up in some snack stores. Through the shop windows you can see how the noodles or dumplings are made, which will also be a really fantastic experience.

After visiting the traditional parts of Shanghai, we will come to the modern part, the Bund, which is the city's most important landmark site. The Bund is on the west bank of the Huangpu River, together with some colonial edifices of the past and opposite the bund across the river is the booming Pudong New Area. Many well-known high-rise buildings like the Oriental Pearl Tower, the World Finical Center, Jinmao Tower and the highest Shanghai Tower can all be viewed from the Bund. Therefore, it is also an undoubtedly wonderful place to shoot great photos.

As we finish the Bund visit, your Shanghai water town tour will end here. Your guide and driver will escort you back to the hotel and bid farewell. If you want to enjoy the wonderful night views of the Bund, you may stay there for a further stroll, or have a coffee break, and finally go back by yourself. From the Bund, you can also walk northward for about 20 minutes to the famous Nanjing Road, which attracts quite a few visitors by the malls and restaurants. Your guide will offer you the directions if needed.
