Tour Guide - Sissi Shen

Sissi ShenMy name is Sissi. I am one of the local tour guides in Shanghai. I am very proud of what I am doing right now. Since I graduated from university, this is the only job I have done for over 8 years. I love my job, because sharing what I know about the city with all kinds of people is the most exciting thing for me. I love this city and enjoy sharing the old stories and the present development with friends all over the world. Shanghai is a global city in China, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology and transport.

During the past 8 years, a lot of changes have taken place in Shanghai and my city became more and more well-known in the world. NBA had its first game in Shanghai in 2004 and the 2010 World EXPO was organized here.

Every year, more and more tourists from everywhere of the world come to Shanghai for traveling. I like to take them to the Yuyuan Garden and show them the old houses and markets in Shanghai. Close to the Yuyuan Garden lies the local City God’s Temple which is a good place to find various kinds of local handiwork and traditional snacks. My clients are amazed at so many shops and different types of dumplings. I like to take my group to the Bund, which is a miniature of the development of the city. By walking along the riverside, I would like to introduce the 1900’s and 2000’s Shanghai to them. A rich collection of buildings and structures of various architectural styles stands along the street leaves them deep impression.

The French Concession is a great place to go in the afternoon. You are going to have a peaceful half day within those quiet cafes or restaurants. Sometimes we will drive a little bit to the suburbs to visit some old style water towns such as Zhujiajiao Town. These old towns will let you forget about the busy city life. A little wooden boat will drive you around and make you feel as if you were in Venice.

Shanghai is such an attractive place for the people who are looking for old history, amazing Asian culture, relaxed but convenient life and even a great shopping experience. Being a tour guide, I am glad to share every part of my city with my clients. I love to watch my clients enjoy the time that they stay in Shanghai. We talk, we eat, we laugh and we are so close.

Any feedback from my clients is appreciated, because the feedback is the motivation for me to make progress. I feel a great honor to introduce the splendid city to all of you.

If you are someone who have not known or enjoyed the city, I would like say to you “welcome to Shanghai, welcome to my hometown”. I am here waiting for your arrival.
