30-Day Visa Free Policy

From December 1, 2023 to end of 2025, Italian ordinary passport holders going to China Mainland for business, tourism, visiting family and friends, or transiting for no more than 15 days enjoy a visa-free entry. Applying for a visa is still needed if staying for more than 30 days or travel for other purposes. From Nov. 30, 2024, the visa-free stay period will be extended to 30 days and traverlers of exchange purpose will also benefit from the vaiver policy. 

Italians with diplomatic passports can visit China Mainland for up to 30 days visa-free. Those with service or official passports, however, should still apply for a China visa.

  Italians can visit Hong Kong or Macau, China for up to 90 days visa-free. 
 

Requirements & Notice for the Visa Free Entry Policy

1. Only citizens entering China for business, tourism, family visit or transit purposes are exempted from visa. For other purpose, visa application is still needed. Individuals entering China for work, study, or journalism purposes do not apply to visa-free policy. 

2. It is advised to take necessary documents that verify your purpose to China like invitation letter, flight tickets, hotel reservation letter ...

3. Minors are also eligible for the visa free policy without special requirements.

4. Ordinary passport holders should confirm that their passports are valid for their intended stay in China. The visa-free policy does not apply to holders of travel documents, temporary or emergency certificates.

5. Italians holding ordinary passports can depart from any other countries to enter China. 

6. Italians can enter China multiples times. No restrictions on the total days of stay limit.

 

China Visa Application Service Centers in Italy

Currently, there are branches of Chinese Visa Application Service Centers (CVASC) in Rome, Milan and Florence. All ordinary passport holders wanting to apply for mainland Chinese visas should submit applications to the CVASC. 

Holders of diplomatic, service/official passport, or applicants qualified for applying for Chinese diplomatic, courtesy and service visa should still submit applications directly to the Embassy or the Consulate General.

Note:
1. The regular processing time is 4 working days; express service takes 3 working days; rush service takes 2 working days.
2. At present, the CVASC only offers post service for return delivery of the processed passport. The applicant will be informed about the application fee when the passport is ready for return and it should be paid by credit card. The processed passport will be posted back in two weeks.
3. This CVASC accepts cash, debit card and credit card.
