 Country Description:
The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (East Timor) is the youngest nation in Southeast Asia, which became independent in 2002. It occupies a total area of 96,120 square kilometers with fine beaches, colonial towns, rugged hills and lush vegetation. The capital is Dili which is of strong Portuguese taste.

Although archeological discoveries indicate that there are human beings tens of thousand years ago, little is known about the country and its inhabitants before the Portuguese reached its coast around the early years of the 16th Century. Timor has many different languages and dialects because of several waves of immigrations into the country in history. People from South China came here thousand years ago and they (mainly the Hakkas) are one of the important communities of trading even today.

 Notes
The Embassy of Timor-Leste in China was opened in December, 2004. It hasn't visa services to foreign countries by now. People to Timor-Leste should get transit visas to Indonesia or Australia and then apply for on-site visa in Timor-Leste's airport dependent upon connecting air tickets. 

Chinese diplomatic officials can contact Chinese Embassy in Timor-Leste and ask help in applying for visas. (Others can request the inviters in Timor-Leste to get visas). Approved by the ministry of interior of Timor-Leste, Foreign citizens, diplomatic officials and their family members do not to pay for the on-site visa fee, but should have sufficient fund to support their daily expense (USD50 per day).

If having USD1,500 cash, a valid stay of 30 days is allowed and can be extended to 60 days if paying USD35 to local police or immigration departments. Maximum stay duration allowed for a single journey is 90 days.

If a visa is expired when the holder leaves Timor-Leste, a fine up to USD500 should be paid (depending on how many days expired). Before departing, USD10 airport tax is required.
