Located in the southeast of Africa, the Republic of Mozambique covers an area of 801,600 square kilometers, of which 60 percent belongs to the plateau and mountainous regions, the rest are the plains. The coastal line extends 2630 kilometers long. It was ranked as one of the most undeveloped country when the civil war ended in Oct 1992, because the economy suffered from the recession. After taking a series of effective measures, its economy restored and developed rapidly. At present, the government continues to reinforce the privatization and improves the investment environments for better economic gains. Mozambique has the rich storage of mineral resources including the coal, copper, tantalum, iron as well as the natural gases. The production of tantalum is No.1 in the world. However, most of the minerals still remain unexploited. Mozambique is also a country of agriculture. The main crops are cashews, cotton and sugar besides corns, rice and beans. About half of the world's cashews were produced in this country. Portuguese is the official language.
The tourism industry
Mozambique is distinct with African characteristics. The dazzling sunshine, nice beaches, and hospitable people invite visitors from every corner of the world. The capital, Maputo, is highlighted with European architectures with different styles, the appealing avenues along the beaches, and the wide boulevard with lush flowers. The old castles, memorable sculptures, natural and revolutionary museums are all worth visiting. The bay near the second largest city Beira was said to be the port where Chinese Navigator Zhenghe stopped and docked. The best traveling time lasts from Aug to next April.
Useful tips:
The climate changes greatly in Mozambique. Proper clothes should be taken. Malaria is popular there, so the residents are advised to have some medicine and get the mosquito net ready. The toilet water is quite helpful in keeping mosquitoes away. Besides, the medical treatment is not very good, some preventive and first-aid pills should be always in hand.
Please contact China Embassy in Mozambique if this country's citizens will go to China.
