Cuba Profile

Full Name: The Republic of Cuba in English,La República de Cuba in Spanish

Capital: Havana, or La Habana in Spanish, the capital city of Cuba, serves as the country's political, economic, cultural and tourism hub. The Havana Carnival is renowned worldwide, attracting scores of tourists each year.

Language: Spanish is the official language which is spoken by the vast majority of the population. Some service industry staff can also speak some basic English.

Population: As of 2023, the population is approximately 11.08 million, consisting mainly of Hispanics, African Americans, and mestizos. Cubans are generally known to the world for their hospitality.

Currency: Cuban Peso (CUP) is the only legal currency of the country. When travelling there, it’s not recommended to bring US Dollars as Cuba doesn’t accept it as a means of payment.

Religion: Most of the population are Catholics, with some Cubans also believing in African religion, Protestantism, Cuban religion, Judaism, etc.

Important Days in History: Independence Day on May 20 (1902), National Day on January 1 (1959), Uprising Day (also called the Anniversary of Attacking Moncada Barracks) on July 26 (1953)

Best Time to Visit: Cuba has a tropical rainforest climate, and the best time to travel is from December to next April.

Tourism: The view of Cuba is captivating: sunshine, limpid seawater, white sand, and beach make it entitled with 'the bright pearl of the Caribbean'. Hundreds of scenic spots along the shoreline are like shining jewels. Moreover, the Havana old city is a treasure of architectures, assembling many buildings with different styles of various times, which have been listed a Human Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Cuba has a rich and diverse cultural life, with music dance and literature being important components of its culture.
