Shaoxing Transportation - Getting Around
Shaoxing metro will have 7 metro lines with a total length of about 260 kilometers (162 miles). Shaoxing metro line 1 is expected to be built in July 2017, and the construction will be finished by 2021. Its main line will run between Jianhu Town and Diyang Road encompassing 19 stations. In addition, covering around 11 kilometers (7 miles), the phase one of the Shaoxing subway line 2 will also be put into service in 2023.
City buses in Shaoxing provide the main method of transportation. There are over 60 bus lines in the downtown area and 80 in the surrounding area. This provides a complex bus network and makes your trip here much more convenient. Buses in Shaoxing are of two types: one is self-service, charging CNY 1 per person; the other charges according to the distance it runs, but the starting fare is also CNY 1 per person.
Tip: The self-service bus has a box in the up-door, the passenger have to slip money into the hole in the top of the bus when getting on. However, the other bus do not has such a box.
There are two holiday tourist lines in Shaoxing:
Shaoxing taxis are a bit different from those in other cities. Each taxi company has a distinct animal symbol, including dragon, dog, giraffe, panda, rabbit, horse, penguin, elephant and sheep. These are not only for an interesting appearance, but also for the convenience of passengers. If one leaves something behind on a car, it is easy to find the taxi company if he/she only remembers the animal symbol.
