How to Get from Hangzhou to Shanghai

Shanghai is about 160km (100mi) northeast of Hangzhou. Without direct flight, the best way to travel from Hangzhou to Shanghai is by bullet train, which requires 1h and at least CNY46.5-77.5. Nearly 160 bullet trains per day enable people to have a more flexible schedule. If you are okay with longer duration of 2-3h, normal speed train is an alternative, and its cheapest ticket costs no more than CNY30. Long-distance bus is also worth considering, and some could directly send passengers to the Pudong International Airport (PVG) or Disneyland Park, which is very convenient.

By bullet train, people could get from Hangzhou to Shanghai in one hour. 155 to 160 bullet trains, including both G-type and D-type, are scheduled every day. From 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., they depart every five to ten minutes. Obviously, there is no need to worry about missing the train. 

Close attention should be paid to the departure and arrival stations. More than 130 bullet trains run from Hangzhou East Railway Station to Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. Others may either leave from Hangzhou Railway Station or Hangzhou South Railway Station, or arrive at Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai West Railway Station, or Shanghai South Railway Station.

People who are not in a rush may travel from Hangzhou to Shanghai by normal speed train, whose train number begins with K, Z or T. About 45 trains are available from 2:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day, sending people from Hangzhou, Hangzhou South or Hangzhou East Railway Station to Shanghai South Railway Station.

It is not so easy to hail a taxi by roadside for such a long distance. But it is not difficult to reserve one online. You may ask the hotel staff to help you with the reservation. 
 

People may get to Shanghai by train, and then transfer to metro line to get to PVG. Considering that there could be four different arrival railway stations, people may follow any of the instructions below.

→ After arriving at the Shanghai Railway Station, you may take metro Line 1 (bound for Xinzhuang) to People’s Square stop, transfer to Line 2 and get off at the PVG stop. It together requires 1.5h and CNY7. 

→ After arriving at the Hongqiao Railway Station, you may take metro Line 2 and get off at the PVG stop, which requires 1.5h and CNY8.

→ After arriving at the South Railway Station, you may take metro Line 1 (bound for Fujin Rd.), transfer to Line 2 at the People’s Square stop, and get off at the PVG stop. It requires 1.5h and CNY7.

→ After arriving at the West Railway Station, you may take metro Line 11 (bound for Disneyland Park), transfer to Line 2 at the Jiangsu Rd. stop, and get off at the PVG stop. It requires 1.5h and CNY8.
 

Around the Future Technology City, Wulin Square, Hangzhou Railway Station or East Railway Station, there are through buses to PVG which spare people the trouble of transferring. Details are shown in the chart above.
 

People may first take a train to Shanghai, and then follow any of the instructions below, depending on the arrival place, to get to Disneyland Park.

→ After arriving at the Shanghai Railway Station, you may take metro Line 3 (bound for Shanghai South), transfer to Line 11 at the Caoyang Rd. stop, and get off at the Disneyland Park stop. It requires 1.5h and CNY6.

→ After arriving at South Railway Station, you may take metro Line 1 (bound for Fujin Rd.), transfer to Line 11 at the Xujiahui stop, and get off at the Disneyland Park. It requires more than 1h and CNY6.
