Heshun Ancient Town

Heshun Ancient Town, located 3 kilometers (2 miles) southwest of Tengchong County, Baoshan City, Yunnan Provinc; is over 600 years old. Here, more than 1,000 old buildings are spread around the mountain foothills and gradually rise from east to west, including ancestral halls, arches and ancient folk houses. The buildings are mostly in the mixed style of Chinese and Western. One of the reason is that many of the earliest dwellers moved here from nowadays Anhui and Jiangsu province, bringing the architecture style of their hometowns; another reason is that Heshun is along the ancient “Southwest Silk Road”, through which the architectural style of South Asia and Southeast Asia appear. Heshun Library

Heshun Library established in 1924 by overseas Chinese is one of the largest rural libraries in China. It is a two-storey traditional Chinese building, with a beautiful front garden. There are more than 10,000 books in the library, many of which are precious ancient Chinese books.

The museum is the first museum in China that is funded by the common people and has the theme of the war of resistance. One can truly learn the history of the war through a large number of old photographs, documentaries, historical materials, oil paintings, comic strips and other collections in the museum.
 

Laundry Pavilions

Laundry Pavilions, also known as Xiyi Pavilion, are not only a peculiar sight, but also a reflection of traditional culture in Heshun Ancient Town. There are altogether six Laundry Pavilions built during the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911 AD). It is said that the men in Heshun built the pavilions in order to prevent their wives from being exposed to the wind, rain and sun while doing the laundry. This is the simplest and most sincere expression of love from Heshun men for their wives. 
 

Former Residence of Ai Siqi

Ai Siqi (1910 - 1966) is a Chinese modern philosopher. His former residence is in typical mixed style of Chinese and western with Chinese style courtyards in rows but western style balconies.
 

Wanlouzi

It is an architecture complex consisting of three courtyards. It is called Wanlouzi, literally curved building because the houses by the street were built with a certain angle in accordance with the curved street. It was the former site of “Yong Mao He”, a famous “multinational enterprise”which prospered for about 100 years in the late Qing Dynasty.
 

Trap River Wetland

People in Heshun Ancient Town named the wetland “Trap River” because the pedestrians are easy to get stuck in it. In the wetland, where the water plants are abundant, and the wild ducks and waterfowls often play; it is a fascinating experience if you have a chance to go boating on it. It is just by the ancient town.
 

Ancient Tree Group

There are nearly 100 ancient trees in the town having an age of more than 100 years. The ancient tree group consists of seven high centuries-old camphor trees. Five of them are lined up in a straight line. Looking closely, they are like giant green canopies; looking far with a great number of branches stretching out like arms resembling the “Thousand-hand Buddha” in Chinese folklore.
 

How to Get to Heshun Ancient Town

There are 12 long-distance buses departing from 08:20 to 19:00 from the Baoshan Bus Station to the Tengchong Bus Station. The journey takes around 4 hours and the fee is around CNY 60. Then one can hire a taxi to reach Heshun Ancient Town, costing about CNY 10.

Opening Hours  7:30 to 22:00 for the town; 8:00 to 17:30 for most indoor exhibitions; 9:00 to 19:00 in summer and 9:00 to 18:30 in winter for the boat and sightseeing car.
