Lhasa Weather in June

Lhasa's weather is very pleasant in June. It is sunny with a clear sky most days. At the end of this month it sometimes rains, mostly at night, and the weather is relatively humid. With the rise of temperature, it is a good time for outdoor activities such as nature walks and hiking. Flowers are blooming in a riot of color along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway and the plateau is now smiling green.

What to Wear in Lhasa in June

As the weather information listed above indicates, the daytime temperature is warm as other places in China. Shirts and pants are ok for daily activities. However, the temperature here falls at night so warm clothing is needed. At night you will need heavy blankets or quilts. For those who plan to visit Namtso where the temperature is lower, a sweater and coat are recommended. Sunhat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and lip balm are always necessary.

Things to Do in Lhasa in June

The classic tourism scenic spots in Lhasa, such as Potala Palace and the Jokhang Temple, are an indispensable part of your travel to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The Everest Base Camp, where visitors can fully enjoy the charm of nature, is recommended for mountaineering enthusiasts. In June there are many festivals and local Tibetans celebrations. The Bhaisajyaguru Festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th Tibetan lunar month when the Medicine Master will sprinkle people with holy water. On this day, Tibetans will gather herbs all over the mountains. Another festival is the Spring Outing Festival, when locals dress in festive costumes, camp in tents in Linka (parks or gardens), and sing and dance around the campfire. This is an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the native culture in 2025.

Warm clothes are necessary because of the difference in temperature between day and night. Ultraviolet rays are strong in June, so sun-cream, sun-glasses and a sun hat should be worn. Also it is important to be prepared for the altitude. Rain may cause landslides, so it not a good idea to take trains during or right after rainy days.
