Tips on Taking a Taxi in Shanghai

Both RMB cash and Shanghai Public Transportation Card are acceptable for payment on all cars. Some taxis in Shanghai accept card payments, so ask the driver before getting on the car.
To avoid taxi fraud, do ask the driver to use the meter and ensure the meter is started after setting off. Drivers refuse to meter and want to negotiate a price may be a scammer. Besides, get the official receipt after arrival if you want, which shows the detailed taxi information like fare, get on/off time, driver license, distance, waiting time ...
Dazhong taxis in sky blue and Qiangsheng taxis in green are well-rated and have better service.
Avoid hailing a cab at a crossroads, as the drivers are not allowed to stop their cars within 30 meters from an intersection to pick up passengers.
