How to Travel between Shanghai and Dalian

The linear distance between Shanghai and Dalian is about 850km (530mi) and the land distance is about 1,900 km (1,200mi) due to the block of Bohai Sea. Considering the long land distance, it is strongly recommended to travel between these two cities by plane. The flight duration is 2h and its ticket is often sold at a discount, varying from CNY500 to CNY1,500. Trains are also available. But only one pair of high speed trains and one pair of normal speed trains are in operation every day, taking 11h and 24.5h respectively. However, the high speed train’s 2nd class seat costs CNY887.5, even more expensive than the discounted plane ticket.
