Largest Cotton Socks Produce Base in China
Located in south-central of Jilin Province, Liaoyuan is 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the capital city of the province, Changchun and about 200 kilometers (124 miles) from Shenyang. It neighbors Siping and Jilin, and is bounded on the east by Liaoning. Liaoyuan is the largest cotton socks production base in China, with about 7 million pairs of cotton socks sold to all over the world every day.
In the early Qing Dynasty (1636 - 1912), Liaoyuan served as a royal hunting area and a royal deer park. Liaoyuan has been domesticating Sika Deer for more than 200 years and has developed into the largest Asian artificial breeding Sika Deer base. Visitors can see reliefs that depict the emperor's hunting scenes and murals reflecting the hunting history and culture in the Hancongding National Forest Park. If you want to glimpse the artistic side of the city, the Dongfeng Peasant Painting Museum is a good choice where many fine peasant paintings which take real life as the source of creation and feature simple images, bright colors and full composition are exhibited.

How to Get to Liaoyuan
1. Through the Changying (Changchun-Yingcheng) Expressway, Changchun Longjia International Airport can be reached from Liaoyuan in one and a half hours. Also through the expressways, Shenyang Taoxian International Airport can be reached in three hours. Visitors can choose the most convenient one according to their schedule.

Weather
Liaoyuan holds the features of semi-humid continental monsoon climate. Alternation of cold and warm spells makes Liaoyuan weather in spring varies greatly some time, and summer is the season of heat and wetness. Like other cities in Jilin, Liaoyuan's winter is long and chilly, either. Autumn is the most comfortable season to visit Liaoyuan for the clear sky and fine weather.
Liaoyuan Travel Tips
History: Liaoyuan was the location of the imperial Shengjing Paddock of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). In 1902, county was first established here called Xi'an. In 1952, it was changed to Liaoyuan City as the Liaohe River originates from it.
