The City of Crane with Large Wetlands and Grassland

Located in the northwest of Jilin Province, Baicheng City neighbors Songyuan to the southeast, bordered by Inner Mongolia to the southwest and northwest and by Heilongjiang to the northeast. Baicheng has a beautiful environment. Nenjiang River and Taoer River pass through the territory and there are large areas of wetlands and grassland. Many kinds of birds inhabit and multiply here, including rare birds such as white cranes and white storks. Every year, the breeding period from April to June and the migration period from September to November are the best times for watching and photographing cranes and other birds. Here you can also experience local Mongolian customs on the Horqin Grassland.

Baicheng Attractions - Things to Do

Xianghai Nature Reserve

It is a national scenic area characterized by a grassland and wetland landscape. Swamps, reed marshes and apricot trees, together with the undulating dunes and shining lakes, capture a picturesque view. The advantaged condition attracts many cranes living here and Xianghai is well known as a town of crane.

Donggou Wetland Hunting Field

It is situated at the convergence of Da'an City and Tongyu County. The whole field was divided into nine hunting zones according to water fowl, fur and feather. The hunting field is open for about three months during spring and summer.

How to Get to Baicheng

Baicheng Chang'an Airport has opened direct flights to Beijing, Tianjin and Hailar. It is about 16.5 kilometers (10 miles) away from downtown and airport shuttle bus & taxi are available for passengers.

It is convenient to travel from Baicheng to Changchun. Visitors have a choice of traveling by bus or train, both of which take approximately three to four hours.

The area enjoys a temperate continental monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of 4.9C (40.8F). According to the records of Baicheng weather, there is seldom rain or snowfall in autumn and spring, and it may hail during May to September. Spring and autumn are best time for sightseeing. 

Baicheng Travel Tips

 History: In the latter years of the Neolithic Age, there were humans living in the region. Before it was held under the administration of supervision offices of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Baicheng was inhabited by several nomad tribes in northeastern China, including Donghu, Huimo, Xianbei, Kitan and Shiwei.

 Physical Features: The terrain of the city is higher in the northwest and lower in the northeast. The eastern part of the Great Xing'an (Daxing'anling) Mountain lies in the northwest of Baicheng, whilst vast grassland makes up the northeast, central and south of the city. Baocheng is abundant in water resources, teeming with reeds and fishes. Grass land and wet lands are prominent throughout the city.
