Jilin Weather

Jilin Province is one of regions in northeast China, where is the coldest part in the country. Generally speaking, Jilin weather features temperate monsoon climate and pretty cold and long winter. In addition, the spring there is dry and windy, summer is hot, and autumn is cool. There are large temperature differences both daily and annually, as the daily range is about 10-14℃ (50-57℉) and the annual range is up to 35-42℃ (95-108℉). The average temperature in winter is under -11℃ (12℉), and the summer temperature there is higher than 23℃ (73℉) at average.

The regional differences of Jilin climate in its northwest and southeast parts are also obvious. The northwest plain near Inner Mongolia is dryer, while the mountainous area in the southeast are wetter comparatively, because it is closer to the sea. Most of rainfalls happen in the east part and in summer as well.
 

Best Time to Visit Jilin

Jilin China weather is suitable to visit all year around, for there are blooming flowers in spring and colorful autumn leaves in fall. In summer, it’s a great place to avoid intolerable heat in other part of China; in winter, the snow and rimes are the most attractive things to see. From late October to March the next year, tens of thousands of tourists go to Jilin for winter fun, thus the period becomes the peak season of Jilin tourism.

Jilin Climate - Seasons & Travel Advice

Spring (Mar - May)

There are snow un-melted in Jilin province in the early spring, thus you can still enjoy the snow at ski resorts and high-altitude sites. There are often frosts and temperature drops during this time. To late April and May, various flowers are in full bloom there. Jingyuetan National Forest Park in Changchun, Changbai Mountain, Liuding Mountain Scenic Area in Yanbian, and so on are all nice to see new sprouted grasses and gorgeous peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, alpine azaleas, etc.

Summer (Jun - Aug)

Jilin holds its average temperature around 16~24℃ (61~75℉) in summer, which is much lower than the temperature in most China places. In the southeastern part, Jilin temperature is even lower, showing an average high temperature of about 22℃ (72℉). Therefore Jilin is a popular summer resort to escape from the heat. In particular, you may feel a little cold if you wear T-shirt and shorts only on Changbai Mountain. Changchun Movie Wonderland, Museum of the Imperial Palace of Manchukuo and historical sites there are great to visit.

Autumn (Sep - Nov)

Autumn in Jilin province is short, and the cold air is more and more active. The temperature fluctuation is frequent. You should keep watching on Jilin weather forecast, to dress right for the weather. In this season, you could enjoy colorful leaves at Jingyuetan National Forest Park, Red Leaves Valley of Changbai Mountain, Yunfeng Lake, Hongye Ridge, etc. You can also experience the Chaoxian (Korean) ethnic customs in the areas near the national boundaries.

Winter (Dec - Feb)

Jilin weather shows its lowest average temperature of -20~-14℃ (-4~7℉) in winter. So it is quite cold with strong northwest wind. The winter comes to the southeast mountainous areas a little earlier, and the northwest plains the latest. There are usually snows in Jilin province, and the most of snowfalls are in the southeast. The snow landscape of Changbai Mountain is the most charming there. Rime Island and Beidahu Ski Resort are also popular with flooded tourists.
