Air

 Airport Code: HET
 Location: east of Hohhot, 9 miles (14 kilometers) from downtown.
Brief Intro: Hohhot Baita International Airport owes its name to the Ten Thousand Huayan Scriptures Pagoda, one of the historical attractions in Hohhot which lies 3.5 miles (5.5 kilometers) southeast to the airport, it was opened in 1958 and then expanded during 1985-1987 to enable it a yearly capacity of handling 1,000,000 passengers. Presently it is connected to many domestic and several international cities with over 130 air routes, which are operated by 31 airlines. The airport serves international scheduled flights to Ulan Bator as well as charter flights to Hong Kong, Russia and Thailand. An expansion project which covers a 2 miles (3.6 kilometers) runway, a new terminal building and the expansion of the parking apron is being carried out to enlarge its yearly capacity up to 3,000,000 passengers.

Train

Hohhot has an extensive railway network, connecting with Beijing, and Hailar to the east; Baotou, Xi'an, Lanzhou, and Yinchuan to the west; Shanghai, Nanjing and Ningbo to the southeast, plus international trains to Ulan Bator and Moscow.

Tickets can be bought or booked at railway stations, ticket centers, and travel agencies. Be sure to book your ticket in advance, especially during the Chinese New Year and National Day holiday (Oct.1 - Oct.7).
 

Long-Distance Bus

Daily buses are available to link the city with other major cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Taiyuan, Datong, and Baotou. While bus transportation is less expensive than air or train travel, in terms of safety and security it may not be your best choice.
 Nowadays, Hohhot metro system has line 1 and line 2 in service, going through the important transportation hubs, including East Railway Station, Hohhot Railway Station, Wanda Plaza and Xinhua Square, which make a great contribution to the passenger transportation in the city. According to the preliminary plan, Hohhot metro is planned to have 5 lines in total. 
 

City-bus

Currently, there are about 60 bus lines opened in Hohhot City, which can reach to the city's every corner. Most of them have no conductor, so you are required to prepare CNY1 before getting on. On the other hand, the mini buses with conductors often charge by distance, costing around CNY1.5.

Taxi

Taxis in the city provide 24 hours' service at reasonable prices. During the day, the flag-down rate is CNY8 for the first 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) and CNY1.5 for one kilometer (0.6 mile) thereafter. CNY1 fuel fee is charged for each ride. When the car runs more than 10 kilometers (6 miles) or travels in the nighttime between 21:00 and 06:00 the next day, the cost of each kilometer increases to CNY2. For every 5 minutes’ waiting, the taximeter automatically charges CNY1.5. During the peak hours of 07:00 – 09:00 and 17:00 – 19:00, the waiting fee is CNY2 for every 5 minutes.
