HK MTR, or Mass Transit Railway, is the rapid transit railway system in Hong Kong. Hong Kong MTR system boasts four kinds of metro lines which are serving in different areas. There are 89 railway stations and 68 light rail stops in total connecting HK Island, Kowloon and many new districts. Due to its efficiency and affordability, MTR Hong Kong system is a common mode of public transport in HK, with about 4 million trips made in an average weekday.
Beside, more metrol lines are in the plan, including Tuen Mun South Extension, Tung Chung West Extension, and Northern Link.

Nine Urban Metro Lines
Hong Kong metro utilizes a stage fare system. Single-ticket, one-way fares range from HK$3.5 to HK$55, depending on the distance. If using
Octopus Card, you can enjoy a discounted fare. Credit card-size plastic train tickets are inserted into slots at entry turnstiles, retrieved, and inserted again at exits. Besides, there are MTR Day Pass for tourists.
Service Hours
HK MTR hours start from around 06:00 in the early morning to the last train at about 01:00 at midnight. Most metro trains will run about 19 hours per day. In some holidays like Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, Hong Kong MTR stations will provide overnight service. Besides, high frequency Hong Kong MTR schedules with average interval of 5mins ensure tourists never have to wait for next one for too much time.

Trains and Stations
The facilities in the HK subway stations include Mother’s lounges, free WIFI, free mobile device charging service, mailboxes and barrier-free facilities. All the trains and most of the stations are air-conditioned. Platforms at all stations are linked to the stations' main concourses by escalators. While on the concourses, passengers can discover minibanks and kiosks selling daily necessities plus other auxiliary services items such as books, magazines, cakes and cosmetics. Moreover, many trains broadcast news coverage.

Passengers can also call the MTR Hotline (852) 2881 8888 which is manned between 08:30 to 18:00 on weekdays and between 08:30 and 13:00 on Saturdays (Except public holidays) for assistance. After office hours, general MTR service information via the Interactive Voice Recognition System is obtainable.

Future Expansions
HK MTR has got plans for new lines. Provisions are made to upgrade the existing infrastructure. New subway links to the stations are also being made for better access.
