Haikou Meilan Airport, 25 kilometers (16 miles) away from the city center, provides a convenient connection with other cities at home and abroad. It has more than 200 air lines flying between major cities inside China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shijiazhuang, Wuhan, Dalian, Xiamen, Xi'an, Chengdu, Harbin, Qingdao and Nanjing, etc., as well as direct flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and so forth.
Train
Hainan Eastern Ring Railway which is a high-speed rail line serving the three train stations now. It is the most crucial project in Hainan Province in recent years. After more than three year's construction, the 308-kilometer high-speed railway between Sanya and the city has been in service since December 30, 2010. In the early days, there are about ten pairs of multiple unit trains (CHR bullet trains) every day running in and out. Passengers can get from one of the two cities to the other in 1.5 hours. From Sanya to City Railway Station, the ticket costs CNY114 for the first class seat and CNY95 for the second class seat. From Sanya to the East Station, the first class train ticket is CNY105 and the second class is CNY88.
Haikou Railway Station
The station is in Yuehai Dadao, the west ring road, which is about 20 kilometers from the city center. It was first built in 2002 and open to traffic in 2005 in due form after the operation of Yuehai Railway passenger service. This service was established on December 5, 2004 that runs between Guangzhou and the city. The rail travels on the boat and is the first Chinese rail connection that spans the sea. Transportation: From downtown area, either of the public buses No. 28, 35, 37, 40 and 57 can lead to the station square directly. Taxi fare is around CNY90 from Meilan airport to the this station. Bus 35 runs from this Station to the East Station.

East Railway Station
This station is the biggest station along the high speed Eastern Ring Railway. It is newly built and situated at the joint area of Fengxiang West Road and Yingbin Dadao, is a bit closer to the city center. Most of the bullet trains to Sanya depart from East Station.
Transportation: Passengers can take any of the listed buses to the East Railway Station: No. 12, 38, 49, 53, 56, 59 and Kuai 2. The taxi fare is about CNY40 from the airport to this station.
Meilan Airport Railway Station
This station is an underground train station served by Hainan Eastern Ring Railway. It links Meilan Airport via an underground transit channel. After arriving at Meilan Airport, passengers can go to this station to take bullet train to Sanya without going out of the airport. There are 10 trains daily from here to Sanya Railway Station. The train Journey is about 70 minutes. The train ticket fare is CNY100 for first class seat and CNY84 for second class seat.

Transportation: Passengers can take bus 41 or 21 from this train station to downtown area and if by taxi, the taxi fare is about CNY50. Taxi fare is about CNY80 from this station to Haikou Railway Station and it is about CNY50 from this railway station to East Railway Station.
Note: During the period of colder weather from December to the following February and in the typhoon season during July and August, you may find that it is not possible to travel off the island for the bad weather. You can cancel your train ticket at the special office in the railway stations and get refunded.

South Coach Station
Mainly operate coaches to the suburban counties in the city. All of the coaches to Sanya City are available here, which take about 3 hours for a single journey.

Tips: The bus ticket to Sanya can also be purchased at the East Coach Station and the West Coach Station. After getting the tickets, these two stations also supply free buses for passengers to get to the South Coach Station.

Coaches to Chengmai County: every 15 minutes from 07:00 to 20:00. The whole journey is about 40 minutes.

Haikou Port is situated in the middle part of Haikou Bay, north of Hainan Island. This port plays an imprtant role in both passenger and freight transportation, being the artery for about 1.4 million inbound and outbound passengers in Hainan anually. Haikou Port consists of Xiuying Port, Xinhai Port and Macun Port. These ports have close interaction with Beihai Port in Guangxi Province, Hai'an Port in Guangdong Province and ports in other places.
