Zhongshan Transportation

Zhongshan is not a large city and its external communication depends heavily on its well developed system of highways, complemented by water transport. Three important freeways pass through the city, connecting it to several other metropolises and prosperous cities in China. In addition, the city's road network has been extended to a number of cities on the Pearl River Delta.
 

Air

The closest airport to the city is the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). In September, 2006, the City opened a new airport lounge, providing travelers with easy access to airport shuttle busses.

Departure times: Once an hour from 8:50 am to 7:50 pm at the A lounge; Once an hour from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at the B lounges.

Starting Place: Zhongshan
Departure location: Seasons View Executive Hotel, No.93, Dongyu Road, Eastern District. (Take bus 1, 6, 9, or 12 to get to the hotel)
Departure times: Once an hour from 6:00 am to 10:00 am as well as from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm
Tip: We recommend leaving at least two and a half hours before your plane is scheduled to depart.
 

Train

Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Mass Rapid Transit (known as Guangzhu Intercity MRT) was completed and brought into service on December 31st 2012. It links Guangzhou South Railway Station in Guangzhou’s Panyu District with Zhuhai, via Shunde, Zhongshan, and Jiangmen.

Along the route, there are 8 stations in the city: Nantou, Xiaolan, Dongsheng, Zhongshan North, Zhongshan, Nanlang, Cuiheng (unused) and Guzhen. Xiaolan Station is located between the 105 National Highway and South Min’an Road at Xiaolan Town. It is the biggest junction on Guangzhu Intercity MRT. Every day, 43 bullet trains leave Guangzhou South for Xiaolan, and vice versa. Those trains operate from Guangzhou South between 06:45 and 22:40 and at Xiaolan Station from 07:26 to 23:23. The journey takes 23 to 29 minutes and costs CNY 35 for a first class seat and CNY 25 for a second class seat.

Dongsheng Station lies in Zhaolong Village at Dongsheng Town. There are 5 scheduled bullet trains running between Dongsheng Station and Guangzhou South. The trains leave Guangzhou South at 08:15, 10:35, 13:20, 15:05 and 17:55, and depart Dongsheng at 10:41, 13:36, 19:01, 12:26 and 16:21. The duration is about 30 minutes and the fare is CNY 40 for a first class seat and CNY 30 for a second class seat.

Zhongshan Railway Station is located in the Torch Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone and the North Railway Station is located between the north part of Shiqi District in the city center and the port area. Passengers to Shiqi District, West District, South District and the Port District should get off  at the North Station, while those going to the East District, Wuguishan District and the industrial development zone should get off at this station.

6 bullet trains run daily between Guangzhou South and City Station. The trains depart at 07:55, 10:35, 13:20, 15:05, 17:20 and 19:10 from Guangzhou South and leave at 09:06, 12:11, 13:21, 15:31, 18:06 and 19:31 from Zhongshan. The journey time is about 40 minutes, while the price is CNY 50 for a first class seat and CNY 40 for a second class seat. There are about 25 bullet trains running daily between Guangzhou South and Zhongshan North. The trains operate from 07:00 to 22:40 at Guangzhou South and 07:32 to 23:42 at Zhongshan North. It takes 29 to 40 minutes and costs CNY 50 for a first class seat and CNY 40 for a second class seat.

Due to the operation of Hong Kong – Guangzhou high speed railway after September of 2018, passengers can take a bullet train to travel between Hong Kong and Zhongshan by transferring in Guangzhou.

Long-Distance Bus

Because Zhonghshan does not have train service, most visitors and residents rely on the bus system for both everyday and travel transport. At present, the city has a developed highway net, including a series of buses stations. The City Main Bus Station connects to Hainan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hunan and Henan provinces. 15 bus routes connect to other parts of Guangdong Province as well. Buses to Guangzhou depart once every 25 minutes; buses to Shenzhen depart once every 20 minutes. The ticket office is open from 06:00-21:00, and tickets are available four days before your departure date. This bus station is located at the crossing of Fuhua Road of the West District and the No.105 National Highway.

In addition, buses to Hong Kong along Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge are in service. The pick-up points include Sheraton Hotel, King Century Hotel, Crowne Plaza Hotel, and Zhongshan Ancient Town Guomao Hotel.
 

Ship

The city has developed a convenient maritime mode of transportation between city and Hong Kong. Local Passenger Traffic Port is located in the Torch Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, just 51 sea miles (about 59 miles) away from Hong Kong. Currently five luxurious high-speed ferries sail between the city and Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal and Hong Kong International Airport. The trip to the Hong Kong International Airport takes about an hour and ten minutes, while the other journeys take about an hour and a half.

City Port supplies visitors with two free buses passes. You can use them according to your travel itinerary. Make sure that you keep your voyages ticket for it will be required when you make reservations using your free bus passes. The free bus schedule is as follows:
 Port→Xiao Lan: via Dong Sheng Yue Hua Hotel, Xiao Lan Hotel, Travel Hotel and Jucheng Hotel at: 10:10, 11:00, 12:30, 15:00, 16:30, 18:00, 20:00, 22:00 and 21:00 (Fridays only)
 Port→Agile Garden: at 09:50, 10:20, 11:00, 12:30, 15:00, 16:30, 18:00, 20:00, 22:00 and 21:00 (Fridays only)

Tips:
1.Arrive at the port 30 minutes before departure.
2. If you plan to go to the Hong Kong International Airport, make sure that you bring valid tickets, passports and visas.
 

City Bus

You can travel around the city easily on the city buses. At present, over 80 bus lines are opened in city area, most of which are self-service (meaningyou should have CNY2/person ready when you board each bus). There are buses to surrounding towns which can greatly facilitate the transport between the cityproper and outskirt area. Comparatively, sights of the city are widely dispersedand no special tour lines and sightseeing buses are available currently. However,there are city buses running to some scenic spots.

For example, Bus No.2 passes Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall. Bus 089, 087, 212, K16, and Zhongshan 12 get to the Tourism Area of Sun Yat-sen's Hometown. Bus No.33 can help you get to the beautiful water town in Minzhong Town. As for the highly praised green cascade of the Yangtze River, you can get Bus No.6 and off the bus at the stop of Changjiang Leyuan. Spring and gulf course are easy of access. Bus No.11 A and B, intercity bus can take you to Zhuhai straight from the city center.

There are city buses to Shenzhen Airport too. They can be found in the terminal building in downtown area built by Shenzhen Airport. It makes people much easier to get to the airport.
 

Taxi

There are about 2,000 taxis in the city. Sonata and Jetta cabs take up the majority. The table below shows the price:
