Foshan Metro, serving Foshan and Guangzhou, has 2 metro lines currently with 38 stations. Besides, Guangzhou metro Line 7 and Guangfo Line also stretch into Foshan. Thus, these add up to 72 stations with a total mileage of 124.5 kilometers (77.4 miles), of which there are 94.6 kilometers (58.8 miles) and 61 stations in Foshan.

The first line in Foshan, Guangfo Line, officially opened to traffic in November 2010, making Foshan the 13th city in mainland China to have a rail transit. Then, Foshan Metro Line 2 and Foshan Metro Line 3 come into service successively. The tram line, Tram Nanhai Line 1 (TNH1), is also in service in Nanhai District of Foshan. There are 2 Foshan Metro lines (sections) under construction, including the subsequent section of Foshan Metro Line 3 and the first phase of Line 4. Meanwhile, the phase two project of Foshan Metro Line 2 is under planning, and the Line 11 is ready to start its construction in the second half of 2023.
 

Foshan Metro Line 2 is the east-west backbone transport line in Foshan City, extending from Nanzhuang to Guangzhou South Railway Station in Guangzhou. The route passes through Chancheng, Nanhai, and Shunde Districts in Foshan as well as Panyu District in Guangzhou, covering a length of 32.4 kilometers (20.1 miles) with 17 stations. It’s reported that Foshan metro Line 2 would extend westward to Xi’an in Gaoming District, which can be expected a few years later.

During rush hours, the frequency of Foshan Metro Line 2 is about 2-3min.; while it changes to 5-10min. during the rest of the time, and the train comes slower especially at night after 21:00.

Foshan Metro Line 3 is also a backbone line in the north-south direction in Foshan. It opened its first section at the end of 2022, passing through Shunde and Chancheng Districts. It connects Shunde College Railway Station in the south and Zhen’an in the north via Daliang, Lunjiao, Beijiao, Lecong, Shiwan and Zumiao quarters. The first section of Foshan Metro Line 3 has a total length of 40.7 kilometers (25.3 miles) with 22 stations, taking about 55 minutes for a single trip to cover all the distance.

Foshan Metro Line 3 will extend northward further from Zhen’an to Xianxi Campus of Foshan University, with 14 more stations. It can be expected to be completed in 2024.

The frequency of Foshan Metro Line 3 is 4-5min. during the rush hours, while it is 8min. in off-peak hours.

Tram Nanhai Line 1 (TNH1), a tram line in Foshan, was opened to traffic in August, 2021. The line runs between Leigang and Linyue East, passes through Xiaxi, Xiadong, Pingzhou, Sanshan and Linyue areas. TNH1 has a total length of 14.3 kilometers (8.9 miles), with 15 stations underground, upon the ground, or on the viaducts. Passengers would spend about 40 minutes for a single trip, taking CNY2-5.
