Wuhan - Lhasa Train

At present, high speed trains are not accessible in Lhasa; but for tourists who want to travel from Wuhan to Lhasa by train, there is one pair of normal trains shuttling between the 2 cities every single day as an option. The running distance is 3,911 km (2,430 mi) with the journey time of about 41.5 - 44 hours in total. The ticket price is CNY 372 for a hard seat and CNY 786 for a hard sleeper. The relatively straight railway linking Lhasa and Wuhan is planning to be done in 2026. If you failed to get a ticket of the through trains above or can't stand that long travel time on normal trains, you can try transfer in Lanzhou. There are 5 pairs of high speed trains operated between Lanzhou and Wuhan, and 5 pairs of normal trains connecting Lanzhou and Lhasa.

Traveling in the above way, a transfer between Lanzhou West Railway Station and Lanzhou Railway Station is needed. The two stations are connected by city buses 1, K102 and 302; a single ride needs about 70 minutes. If by taxi, it takes about 20 minutes.The construction of the new railway connecting Lhasa and Wuhan started in 2014. The new railway line is expected to be put into service in 2026 with the ability to carry both normal and high speed trains. By then, the running distance between the 2 cities will be shortened to about 2,850 km (1,771 mi). And the general duration along this route will fall to about 22 - 23 hours accordingly.For tourists who want to make their journey time shorter, flight is a good travel choice. Every day, there is one flight flying from Wuhan to Lhasa at 20:15, the flight takes 12 hours and 35 minutes; and the flight from Lhasa to Wuhan normally takes off at 11:40 with the journey time of 7 hours and 45 minutes. The flights will stop over in Chongqing. The economy fares range from CNY 800 to CNY 2,600. You can also take a connecting flight in Chengdu or Xi'an, by which the total flying time can be reduced to about 4 - 4.5 hours.
