Tianjin - Hohhot Train
Currently, there is no high speed train available between the two cities. Nearly three pairs of normal trains are operated between Tianjin Railway Station/ West Railway Station and Hohhot Railway Station/ East Railway Station for a distance of 627/679 kilometers (390/422 miles). Duration is 11 – 13 hours. The highest Ticket fare for a hard sleeper is CNY 223 per person.
When high speed trains open in 2019, the travel time will be shortened to 4 hours or so.

Tianjin Railway Station
Closer to the city center, two pairs of trains to/from Hohhot are operated here. This station has convenient transportation around such as subway and city buses. From here, passengers can go to other places easily.

Tianjin – Hohhot High Speed Railway consists of two sections.
Tianjin – Beijing High Speed Railway: It has served the public since August 1, 2008. Duration between the two cities is greatly reduced to 0.5 – 1 hour.
Beijing – Hohhot High Speed Railway: This section is under construction and will open in 2019, by then the duration between Beijing and Hohhot will be shortened to 3 hours.
After the whole line opens in 2019, Tianjin and Hohhot can be reached within 4 hours, saving a lot of time.
Direct flights are available between the two cities, taking about 1.5 hours. In low season, the ticket fare for an economy class seat can be low to CNY 200 or so. For those who are tight in time, flight trip can save a lot of time. However, flight delays may occur easily because of weather change
Actually, those who want to save day time are advised to travel by overnight sleeper trains including 1136/1134, and K888 which depart in the evening and arrive in the next morning. Traveling overnight can also save one-night hotel fee, so this is a preferable choice for budget travelers.
