Shanghai - Nanning Train

If you want to make a rail travel between Shanghai and Nanning, then you currently have five choices including one pair of bullet trains and 4 pair of normal trains. The bullet ones take about 11.5/12 hours for the whole journey and the normal ones take 24 - 32.5 hours.

There is no need to say that this is a long journey, so if you want to make a quick trip between the two cities, flight will be the top choice, which just takes 3 – 4 hours. However, flight ticket usually costs more than railway tickets.
 G1501/G1502 is the only pair of high speed trains running in the daytime between Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Nanning East Railway Station for a distance of 1,224 miles (1,970 km). The bullet overnight sleeper trains are unavailable yet. Compared with normal types, they cost more, but shorter travel time is needed. Besides, the environment and facilities of bullet types are better than that of normal types.

Four pairs of them are running between the two cities. One pair of them numbered as K1556/K1558 are running from/to Shanghai Railway Station which is closer to the city center and operates both bullet and ordinary types, and other 3 pairs of them T81/T82, T381/T382, and T25/T26 are from/to South Railway Station which only operates ordinary types. And all of them arrive at/depart from Nanning Railway Station.

Besides, compared with K types, T types take less time. So if possible, T types should be your top choice. Besides, you'd better purchase a sleeper because it's a long and tiring journey. And owing to sleeper tickets are always in a great demand, you should buy one in advance.
