Shanghai - Hong Kong Train
Recently, China Railway announced that overnight high speed sleeper trains between Shanghai and Hong Kong will be operated since June 15, 2024 on every Friday to Monday. The overall travel time will be shorted from 19h34m to 11h14m. The tickets will be available for sale since June 5.
A pair of bullet trains G99/ G907 replaced the original normal speed trains, running daily between Shanghai and Hong Kong. The duration only takes about 8 hours, far less than 19 hours' travel time before. For a second class seat, the ticket price costs CNY 894.5 (USD 125) and it takes CNY 1,453 (USD 203) to buy a first class seat ticket.
However, passengers can also choose to transfer in Guangzhou South, Changsha South or Shenzhen North for more choices if they unluckily missed the only direct train. If transferring, the overall duration is about 8.5-13 hours and the ticket fares cost around CNY1008 (USD 139.08) for second class seats.

Compared to 9 hours' duration of high speed trains, flights between Shanghai and Hong Kong onhongy take about 2.5 hours. And more than 20 flights are operated every day. So flight is still the best choice for business travelers. However, the flight ticket price is always a little higher than that of bullet trains, costing around CNY 800-1,800 for an economy class seat.
